The perfect class for the photographer with lots of great images but nothing to put on the wall! This course guides students through producing fine finished photographic prints, with a focus on careful tonal adjustments, and image preparation for printing. The class addresses all aspects of digital printing, for students using both Yupphoto-chemical (commerical) and inkjet printers.

For the first class, students are to bring ten prints to introduce their work to the other students.

Course objectives:

  • discuss printing options, costs and consequences
  • learn about colour space and calibration
  • explore the concept of proof, work and finished prints
  • learn strategies for culling images for printing
  • create methods for consistent image finishing
  • complete a set of finished images

Class Size: four to eight students

Fee: $280 CAD plus printing costs

Course Expectations: students are expected to produce numerous proof prints weekly during the course, along with work and finished prints, 8"x10" or larger. These prints can be produced on photo-chemical (commercial) printers, or photo quality inkjet printers. Printing costs are not included in the course fee.

Requirements: Students must have previous photography experience, be familiar with manual camera controls, and have intermediate skills with Adobe Photoshop® or Adobe Lightroom® (in-class image editing will be done on CS5). Students who have not completed the Photo 101 and Digital 101 courses should contact Eric Boutilier-Brown prior to registration to ensure their skill level is sufficient to fulfill the course expectations.
