Available as a One-On-One Course

This workshop provides an introduction to macro photography, with a specific focus on floral subjects (though the principals can be applied to almost any small subject). Using a variety of different equipment and techniques, a number of different approaches to macro photography will be explained, demonstrated, and explored by the students. Sample equipment for each of the approaches will be provided to ensure that students can explore each of the major ways to begin working with macro photography.

Learning Goals:

  • explore macro equipment options
  • introduce exposure, focus and other technical concerns
  • explore the main ways to create a macro image
  • macro/flower photo tips and tricks
  • advanced techniques (stitching, focus stacking)

Class Size: six students maximum

Fee: $200 / $300 one-on-one

Requirements: A single-lens reflex camera and lens or compact digital camera with macro mode; close-up lens, extension tubes, macro lens, tripods and remote controls or cable released are recommended. Students provide their own memory cards and batteries. Students should be comfortable using their camera on the control side (P, Av/A, Tv/S or M modes) and controling exposure through exposure compensation or manual exposures.

Feedback from students:

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, now it's up to me to take the theory and put it to practice until I get that large picture I want...the course really opened up
my eyes and imagination.
